Hydraulic cylinders are often seen used on truck lift gates, shipping dock loading ramps and dock levelers, personnel lifts, aerial platforms, and wheel chair lifts. These cylinders are often required to fit into very tight spaces with custom dimensions.

Lift gate and dock leveler cylinders must be rugged and reliable.  These machines affect the flow of materials and supplies and products moving in  and out of a manufacturing plant or on and off of delivery trucks. Cylinder failure means more than just an inconvenience, it means wasted man hours, plant shutdown, missed deliveries, and, of course, lost profits, maybe even lost customers. Cylinder failure may also result directly or indirectly to a workplace injury. For these reasons, the cylinders used on this type of equipment must be built tough.

Aerial lifts, personnel lifts and wheel chair lifts must be reliable. The payload is a human being. The cylinder usage is frequent but proper maintenance is likely to be infrequent. The machinery will often be operated by those unfamiliar with hydraulic equipment. The cylinders are often small bore but still need to be built tough in order to endure these difficult conditions.
